WAY TO GO!!!!!

"Preparing for the Mighty SAGE"

Mrs. Montano, our AMAZING Title One Coordinator, wrote another really fun and entertaining play to get our students motivated for the SAGE end-of-level testing.
This year's title was
 "Preparing for the Mighty SAGE".

The play was put on by many of our Amelia Earhart students under the direction of Mrs. Montano and her awesome Title One Aides.

It included songs and even some dancing. Some of our talented recorder players played the background music.

It takes place in the Amelia Earhart Kingdom of Knowledge where the King and Queen of Knowledge were looking for a fearless knight to marry their daughter, the Princess of Preparation, and prepare the kingdom to conquer the Mighty SAGE.

The King of Knowledge calls for all the knights to present their ideas on how to prepare to conquer the Mighty SAGE.

The first night, Sir Dance-alot, thought that all the kingdom had to do was dance the Can-can in order to conquer the Mighty SAGE. But, of course that wasn't the answer so he did not get to marry the Princess of Preparation.

The second night, Sir Snowman, thought that building a snowman would prepare the kingdom to conquer the Mighty SAGE. So he and his helper built a snowman and the cast sang, "Do you Want to Build a Snowman"  in Spanish. That wasn't the answer either.

The Princess of Preparation was upset and didn't think their would be a knight that would know what to do to conquer the Mighty SAGE.

Then finally, the third knight, Sir Nerd-alot, had the solution to how to prepare the kingdom. He proposed that the kingdom Study, Rest, Eat Well, and Come to School. If the kingdom would do these things, they would surely conquer the Mighty SAGE!

The King of Knowledge was so pleased with Sir Nerd-alot and so the Princess of Preparation and Sir Nerd-alot were married and the Amelia Earhart Kingdom of Knowledge knew what to do to prepare to conquer the Mighty SAGE.

Everyone enjoyed it and it was a great motivator for our students to try their best during the SAGE testing.

Well done students
and
THANK YOU Mrs. Montano and the Title One Aides!!!!

Author Visit -- Cheri Earl and Carol Williams

We were very fortunate to have the opportunity to have two great authors come visit with us on Friday, April 4th.

Cheri Earl and Carol Williams, the authors of the
 "Just in Time" series,
came to Amelia Earhart to share their books with us.

They came in their "time machine" and spoke to us about their book series and why they became authors.

They were a lot of fun and really got the students excited about being authors.
They spoke about their love of history and how they incorporate history in their books.

Each book is centered around one of the 50 states in different periods of time.
They gave us a quiz on Utah history and gave each grade an opportunity to earn points towards winning a book series for our library.

They were a lot of fun and it was a really enjoyable assembly!

We got to hear the authors read a chapter from their exciting first book, "The Rescue in Delaware".
It was a real treat to hear the characters come to life!

Both authors were very gracious and took the time to answer the student's questions about being an author and getting books published.

Thank you Cheri Earl and Carol Williams!!!!!!
We are excited to read your books!

Video Chatting with New York City

Mrs. Anderson and Miss Webb's first grade classes had the opportunity to do a video chat with a technology class at a New York City private boys school.

 Isn't technology amazing?
How fortunate we are to be able to do something like this!

Each class took turns asking questions about each other's school and things they liked to do.  It was a great opportunity to learn how different schools are in New York City and how they are the same in many ways to ours. Did you know that their school in New York City has a playground on top of the roof and a lot of their students take the subway to get to school?
It was very interesting.
The students really enjoyed it and it's something they will remember for a long time!

First Lady, Jeanette Herbert, Visits Amelia Earhart

We were so fortunate to have a special visitor come to our school on January 17th.

The First Lady of Utah, Jeanette Herbert!

She was so kind to come and talk to our students about the importance of reading. She shared many experiences and example of why reading is such an important skill to have. It's not only an important skill, but it's really fun too!  She also had a question and answer session and the students really enjoyed it.  After, she read a story to the students (with voices and everything!)

Thank you Mrs. Herbert!
We really enjoyed getting to know you.
